PGCPS Internationally Trained Teacher Support Network (ITTSN) Ignites 2024-2025 Learning Series with a Vibrant Kick-Off Event

September 21, 2024 – Greenbelt, MD – A wave of excitement swept through Eleanor Roosevelt High School as the Internationally Trained Teacher Support Network (ITTSN), a dynamic initiative under the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), launched its much-anticipated 2024-2025 Learning Series. The kick-off event, attended by over 80 passionate and dedicated Internationally Trained Educators, set the stage for a year brimming with growth, innovation, and leadership.

Since its inception in 2020, the ITTSN Program has been on a mission to revolutionize the teaching landscape in PGCPS by building a robust and supportive network of Internationally Trained Teachers (ITTs). This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower ITTs with top-tier professional learning opportunities, foster a thriving leadership pipeline, and deepen understanding of the unique challenges and triumphs these educators face as they navigate new educational environments.

The energy in the room was palpable as Dr. Rima Garg, the visionary program coordinator, along with her stellar team of Induction Coaches—Beatrice Ndikum, Celia Burton, Jennifer Findlater, and Julieta Perez—and Teacher Leaders—Padmavathy Srinivasan, Swarnlatha Annamdas, Immaculate Mba, Vivian Cruz Martinez, Dalilah Gonzales, Jennifer Palo, and Dr. Chidi Duru—led the charge in creating an unforgettable day of learning and connection.

Key highlights that had attendees buzzing with excitement included:

Empowering Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Session – Ms. Robin McNair, the Restorative Approaches District Coordinator from the Office of Student Engagement and School Support, captivated the audience with a powerful session on Social Emotional Learning, underscoring the transformative impact of emotional intelligence in the classroom.
2. Fostering a Sense of Belonging—Ms. Betsy White, the dynamic Diversity Strategy Officer from the Office of Diversity, Equity & Belonging, inspired educators with strategies for creating inclusive, welcoming environments that celebrate diversity and build strong community bonds.
3. Engaging Q&A Panel with PGCPS Leaders – The crowd eagerly participated in a lively Q&A session with an all-star panel of school administrators, including Dr. Evelyn Quinones, Dr. Howard Knights, Dr. Tito Villosillo, Ms. Nori Duran, and Mr. Jamon Liburd. Hot topics such as teacher evaluations, roles and responsibilities, and the art of building positive, cross-cultural relationships took center stage.
4. Inspiring Testimonials from ITTSN Alumni – The room erupted in applause as former ITTs Edith Chang, Vivian Cruz Martinez, and Aditi Gupta shared their compelling stories, illustrating how the ITTSN program was a game-changer in their journey to becoming successful, impactful educators.
5. Pathway to National Board Certification—Dr. Shona Sandlin, a National Board Coordinator, electrified the audience with insights into the prestigious National Board Certification process, inviting participants to confidently take the next step in their professional journey.
