Statement on Senate President Leadership Change
Prince George’s County, MD: Today it was announced that longtime Maryland Senate President and Prince George’s County resident Thomas V. Mike. Miller would be stepping down from the leadership mantle from which he has lead the state of Maryland for decades. It was also announced that the senior Senator from Baltimore City, Senator Bill Ferguson will be picking up the torch of servant leadership as Senate President. PGCEA President Theresa Mitchell Dudley released the following statement:
“Senator Miller has been a longstanding staple of leadership for Prince George’s County, the state of Maryland, and a consistent supporter of legislation that improves outcomes for our children”, said Dudley. “While we are sad that he will no longer be Senate President, we are praying for his recovery and are thankful that we will still have his leadership in the State Legislature as a senior senator.”
“We are also looking forward to working with Senator Bill Ferguson who has also been a consistent advocate for better education. Knowing that Senator Ferguson’s district of Baltimore City and Prince George’s County are two of the most impacted school districts by the state’s current inadequate funding formula, we look forward to working with him to push the Kirwan Commission recommendations and other sustainable policy solutions to ensure that all of Maryland’s children receive an equitable education.”
