PGCPS and PGCEA Sign Negotiated Contract Agreement Today

Prince George’s County Educators’ Association and Prince George’s County Public Schools Sign Long Awaited Contract to Improve Learning Environments for Schools

Prince George’s County, MD: Tomorrow, Prince George’s County Educators’ Association (PGCEA) leadership and members, representing its 10,000 members will sign a contract with Prince George’s County School Board, putting in place the new contract agreement for educators. The contract supports healthy learning environments for the County’s students, educators, and community. PGCEA President Theresa Mitchell Dudley released the following statement regarding the contract signing:

“This process has been very exciting for me as President, to watch our new CEO establishing herself and demonstrating that it is a new day in the institution of Prince George’s County Public Schools. The agreement is historic that for the first time there will be a joint task force to establish mutually agreed upon measures of class size, and another task force to make recommendations on appropriate caseloads for school counselors, psychologists, speech pathologists, therapists, pupil personnel workers, and social workers.”

Through PGCEA’s Bargaining for Common Good platform, the union was able to fight for pay increases for educators; sensible workloads for special educators; accountability regarding the amount of time taken for mandated testing of students; safety and security against bullying; smaller class sizes; overhaul of educator evaluations; training, support and resources for restorative practices; and additional days for educators to work autonomously to prepare for their students.
