ICYMI: Prince George’s County Educators’ Association Statement on PGCPS Step Restoration Plan

PGCEA Commends Members for Calling out the School System for its More Than 10 Years of Subpar Educator Compensation

Prince George’s County, MD: In a well done Washington Post article today, Rachel Chason goes into detail about the nearly 6,000 PGCEA members who have been behind on pay for a decade now. The article was followed by a press conference announcing PGCPS’ plan to bring educators’ pay to current standards of other educators in the region. This was all on the heels of protests and picketing throughout the District in support of “Teacher UnAppreciation Day,” held last week. “Teacher UnAppreciation Day” was in direct response to PGCPS’ refusal to agree to various terms of during contract negotiations. PGCEA released the following statement:

“This is a win for our children and all of the employees of Prince George’s County Public Schools because of the work that our members have done for months,” said Prince George’s County Educators’ Association President Theresa Mitchell Dudley. “Our members showed up to Annapolis, to council hearings and school board meetings in large numbers to testify and ensure that their voices were heard loud and clear.”
